(glimpses) - and still a bit more....

we still are settling in after our move with bits of progress between busy days ....  these stray packets of seeds were a happy find in a recently opened box...

while last summer, there was no room to start a garden, his year it's with a lot of excitement that there will be a garden to take care of...
though this is how yesterday morning looked, after a day of constant rain ... Again, a white world and nearly half a foot of snow. The difference of a day ....

spring certainly hasn't had an easy time of it this year...   in the foreground the daffodils emerged nearly overnight when last wednesday the "last" of the winter snow had dissolved into the earth... with less than a week of a full thaw, the newest emerging shoots find themselves in a winter-inspired land ...

this young robin (I think) is wondering to himself this morning also, where it's all gone? ... how have all the puddles have turned to ice again and when will the earth turn soft and brown ?

not long we both hope...it's time to start the garden!

(glimpses) - here at last

very monotone I know, but as you can see the snow and ice are gone. In its place,  a beautiful muddy brownness is all around us. (yes, I mean it!...a lot of us here have been longing to see the earth revealed again color or not )

some quick first time explores nestled in to such an overly busy week....

and the first bits of color emerge (see that little bit of purple)... a very welcoming sight!

meanwhile while I learn which roads to stay clear of ...I'll take care not to get stuck in the mud!

(at the workbench) - rabbits!

of course there have to be rabbits considering the time of year and all ....and so many!

i've cut them from a very nice cherry board....

and here they all patiently wait to have their ear trimmed and carved before they bodies are rounded and shaped....
and after more sanding, burnishing and finishing,  they will all become very, happy mr long ears rabbits...

ps.: the forest papas have been coming along and soon will be making a visit as well... i think the first of the papas are looking quiet sharp!

(at the workbench) - which way the wind blows

march always seems to be about waiting...   past year's like this still cold but with the winter's white snow banks receding and the earth revealing and about to return ...this year the waiting is so very long (like a endless narnia winter)  ...

in the workshop, i am staying busy with new projects ...

i am imagining wooden sails and  ...  how many old ships that set sail on winds that they knew not were they would lead....

on journeys filled with uncertainly that would become stories in the making to tell…

(at the workbench) - a clover leaf

this week, i only have a few images to share of some hand-carved clover leaves i'd been working on.  the pictures show the leaves at the early stages of sawing out the profiles, roughing and shaping. i also have few other leaf shapes I started a while back, so hope to share them soon too.

have a wonderful weekend and thanks so much for visiting!

(glimpses) - daylight savings baking

i thought with daylight savings time taking an extra hour from our sleep, that i might sleep in just a bit longer, but as it turns out … with the window shades up instead of down… that faintest of dawn light, had me up at baker's hours …

maybe this week's morning transition will go be better than i was thinking…

these are friendly homemade cinnamon rolls I made for our early warming…still holding out for winter to end, a warming morning treat feels just right while we wait (still) longer …

and this is a beautiful bit of sunlight i found as i was clearing up after breakfast!

(at the workbench) - soon

i have been noticing many new tracks on the snow pack these last days and wondered just who has been running about… and what restless little creatures will be shaking off this long winter ….

so much anticipation comes with this time of year… waiting to throw open windows…discover what has lain below the deep white of winter … the chance encounters with friends as our time outside lengthens and the very deep longing to return of all things green…

(glimpses) - inside the ice fortress

so this is what winter's become, the perpetual digging of trenches in the deepening snow banks …with winter's storms, flus, sniffles and coughs coming from inside what has become an ice fortress. but spring must certainly be waiting (somewhere in the wings) for its time of return…though inside this winter nest, I've been at work on something that goes beyond the cold and winter weariness…

I started these little tins of fragrances earlier this year… within each little tin I imagine a memory, feeling and far away place one could travel to (no matter the weather is outside)

nag champa is a place of peaceful and deep meditation …it's a blend of patchouli, sandalwood and dragon's blood

middle earth is the place where the forest floor still blooms with its native spring flowers, the air is fresh and crisp with the scent of evergreen pine and cedar, the earth is a deeply awakened moist and growing! there is a sense of a  distant, hidden world of fairy tales, elves and ancient creatures, and deep roots that is revealed …

goodness is the memory of simply joys…. morning in the garden, soft with gentle mix of flowering blooms, the sweetness of sun-warmed strawberries and mixed with sweet musky tones and vanilla which remembers something that is so tasty and special treat

and lavender, the place of deep calm drenched in summer-born flowers with underlying scent of rose geranium that hints it's earthy undertones of citrus, mint and spice.

these are now available online here. I hope to have other in-stock items listed here and easily available on my square marketplace site. the perfume fragrance tins ship at a flat rate of $3.20 domestically regardless of the number of perfume tins ordered.

Keeping warm thoughts nearby until spring arrives!

(at the workbench) - from here to there

still figuring out where everything goes …with lots of decision of what would work best…so it's likely the sorting, shifting and rearranging will continue for sometime to come …

at least these favorite tools never seem to far from reach… they literally live on my workbench no matter what projects are working their way through …

in one shoebox, I find my little girl and unfinished doll I was making with her little curls…

only my little girl is some ten or so years older  (and the project adrift in its lonely box for four years or more) …tell me I'm not the only one to find still another long lost project !

in the workshop, I've started preparing windswept candleholder gift sets with a sample of my beeswax polish to take to an event I'll be at in a couple of weeks …

as well as getting sets of my waldorf candleholders together similarly in boxed gift sets of seven

as well as single holders in lots of different colors (sorry no pictures today of the other colors, but hope you can imagine them all nestled together) …. it's back to work for  me now …

(glimpses) - graceful mechanics

during the very last bit of our holiday recess, we managed to squeeze our one and only day trip …a drive into Cambridge, MA with our destination this time being the MIT Museum .

among slowly moving mechanics that beat quiet rhythms,  the baby doll gently rocking endlessly to the transparent mechanics that

the autumn leaf's graceful balanced walk on the turning wheel.  all knew not if it called themselves machine or art, but maybe names don't matter …the exhibit titled "5000 Moving Parts" is up through November 2014, so there's time to see these gracefully mechanical thoughts if you have the chance….
