(glimpses) - on a wave

in a different life, we live among the palms and not canopied oaks and maples

where even stormy skies and seas come in shades of blues unimagined and beautiful...

the storms pass quickly here unlike the way they do at home ...

and kind sentinels stand watch as we play in the coming waves ...
and inthis beautiful way (in these few short days away)  a girl turns one year older and closer to becoming who she will be ...happy summer all!

(glimpses) - day break

spring has warmed us all

i can finally see in the growing warmth, a different light ... warmer and more inviting than even the week before ... I think my heart has even thawed so very happy to say goodbye to a winter that has certainly overstayed it's welcome...

beautiful wide blue slies above

right now the seasons here won't be rushed...while other parts have already past their spring and already into steamy heat, we still have the coming weeks to see spring turn the world from brown to green again

even the sweet row houses of once home to textile worker in our little historic mill village stand waiting for the warm light to come their way ...

these first sightings are still rare sights...

these are a few my own littlest of flowers just finished that emerged while the other sleeping ones wait unearth themselves ...

and  my own little stand of toadstools likewise just about done while we wait for a little mushroom hunting to begin after april showers arrive... otherwise,  i've had some little people in the works as well.these last couple of weeks... as usual they are a shy folk, but hope I can introduce them to you soon :)

thanks so much for visiting!

(glimpses) - these things are

while warmer spring time days are oh so slowly returning, we had a really nice weekend with a simple, tasty easter meal (a little different from what's become our traditional fare).

dessert was a strawberry icebox cake made with a very simple homemade vanilla custard... it was very good :)  We made this first as it needed time coming together in our "ice box"

for dinner itself, we made a simple but delicious pairing of roast asparagus and pan-seared portobello mushrooms with rolled chicken cutlets filled with caramelized onions and artichoke hearts. a recipe i put together hoping to make our simple meal a little more special.

for the rest of our meal, i was reminded of all the good things that are yet to come when spring thaws the rest of the snow banks.  hope this easter weekend was wonderfully delicious for you and your family too!

(glimpses) - fly away

head in the clouds, feet in the sand, moving along the shore in the motions of a ....

sandpiper at the edge of water and racing away from the incoming wave

she watches as the sun moves below the horizon with one last look into the wide ocean and an even wider sky

thoughts of other days, years as a child of many ages who had been here before playing at the edge of the vast atlantic...

and to think this good kid has reach yet another milestone of 14!

(glimpses) - one more year

the school year always ends with many happy surprises from my daughter

a family made of clay circles round

a pair of elfish stripped and felted slippers

and the happy pages of history in her main lesson book ...

these school years go by quickly..... and the little girl who played under the table now waits to finish one last middle school year, before the next adventures begin!

(glimpses) - a trip to the museum

hope you had a wonderful long weekend! we just managed to make to the museum this weekend before a Impressionist exhibit at the Museum of Fine Art in Boston closed ... (I promise to share a few pictures a little later this week when there's a bit more time to post)

but for now some pictures of a quilt exhibit that is still going on just now... it was very striking and beautifully arranged to convey different principles of color theory and design. if you haven't had the chance to see it, it's definitely worth a visit...

(glimpses) - outbreak

be warned! dandelion outbreak in progress ... in a day or so with a a bit rain and lots of beautiful sunshine,  the dandelions have swept through the field as we had our backs turned....

spring certainly is in full force now and this is just what we had been waiting for....

and it hasn't taken long for the maples and birches to follow...all at once, all is racing forward now...

in the studio, a long overdue reorganization and tidying has started ...

i've started with the easier bit, while I figure out best to re-situate workshop machinery and work surfaces

and a little something different I've been working on some pottery and ceramics pieces over the last few months...
a carved ceramic tile with a very proud stallion against starry night sky ... just a sketch of some ideas for new projects I hope to be working on for the fall :)

some of hand thrown bowls that have been fired once and awaiting glazing and second firing (I was in a rush this day, so managed to take some very fuzzy pictures!)

the first set that I made that have come home with me and are getting used at dinner regularly:)

well I guess that's it for now ...hope you are having a great week!

(glimpses) - and still a bit more....

we still are settling in after our move with bits of progress between busy days ....  these stray packets of seeds were a happy find in a recently opened box...

while last summer, there was no room to start a garden, his year it's with a lot of excitement that there will be a garden to take care of...
though this is how yesterday morning looked, after a day of constant rain ... Again, a white world and nearly half a foot of snow. The difference of a day ....

spring certainly hasn't had an easy time of it this year...   in the foreground the daffodils emerged nearly overnight when last wednesday the "last" of the winter snow had dissolved into the earth... with less than a week of a full thaw, the newest emerging shoots find themselves in a winter-inspired land ...

this young robin (I think) is wondering to himself this morning also, where it's all gone? ... how have all the puddles have turned to ice again and when will the earth turn soft and brown ?

not long we both hope...it's time to start the garden!
