(glimpses) - day break

spring has warmed us all

i can finally see in the growing warmth, a different light ... warmer and more inviting than even the week before ... I think my heart has even thawed so very happy to say goodbye to a winter that has certainly overstayed it's welcome...

beautiful wide blue slies above

right now the seasons here won't be rushed...while other parts have already past their spring and already into steamy heat, we still have the coming weeks to see spring turn the world from brown to green again

even the sweet row houses of once home to textile worker in our little historic mill village stand waiting for the warm light to come their way ...

these first sightings are still rare sights...

these are a few my own littlest of flowers just finished that emerged while the other sleeping ones wait unearth themselves ...

and  my own little stand of toadstools likewise just about done while we wait for a little mushroom hunting to begin after april showers arrive... otherwise,  i've had some little people in the works as well.these last couple of weeks... as usual they are a shy folk, but hope I can introduce them to you soon :)

thanks so much for visiting!

(at the workbench) - toadstools and other fairytales

still waiting for spring here, maybe you are too? i don't know how it's always something of  a revelation when the snow and ice melt away to see the earth below again. as if i landed on a completely different world... so as the waiting,  the starts and stops of this current ice age ever slowly move us towards spring,   here's a little peek of some work in progress.

i am imaging all the little things yet to be an unearthed when mud season really returns, when the river's waters begin to roar and rush and when our silent part of the world turns wild again with the sound of the returning birds and wildlife.

with this set of toadstools, i've decided to make them into pendants like the one above and think i just might make a few other pretty little wild things while i'm at it!

(at the workbench) - he will return

in the back of my mind even as gorgeous autumn is still in full color, thoughts of him linger...with all his mightiness and reach... king winter like no other tells us we must prepare for his return... i share just this one quick picture for now as all things are swirling faster like the falling autumn leaves caught on the wind...sending you warming wished wherever you may be!

(at the workbench) - a picture in the making

I don't think I've ever found myself here being unabashedly wordy...

so hope you won't mind if I share a recent project that I've been working with a few pictures...

these picture frames are quite a bit bigger then the post card frames I begun making earlier this year

they're custom made for the children's watercolor paintings and artwork ... and are great for larger seasonal waldorf prints too

but of course there's still more to come...

(glimpses) - the wayside flowers

within the deep, deep rain-filled greens...

 we come across the meadow....
and growing by the wayside...

we can help but stop to look at the flowers ...

small, quiet and memorable  moments along the way to summer ...

(glimspes) - after all

well, it looks like after a good long sleep

... he's decided that winter is indeed over and without any delay as the song of birds grows louder every day .... he has made off to the neighbor's field for a long awaited meal from the hay field across the road ....

I have begun to wonder ... having so eagerly awaited his return ... having such silly thoughts about the return of woodchuck...

spring always returns... and somehow I can't help but feel the wonder of it each time .... I have to say I love winter, but as I look out from from my window  to see the bare-branched hedge overlaying the even more barren branches of the oaks and maples...

seeing how busy the birds, squirrels and other furry creatures are... and feeling their excitement as the last of the snow has been transformed to happy raindrops falling off the eaves of the roof  ... I breathe a sigh of relief and am filled with joy....
it is so funny to see that even pine cones now find a way to set out bloom at this time of year .... so perhaps it is not so surprising, that the sight of a stout forager leaving his bed under the barn could bring me joy....  warmest wishes for a wonderful Spring to you....  the flowers are yet to come after all!!

(glimpses) - neutral ground

it is a brown and neutral time of year...

we find ourselves thinking of what is coming ...

often looking for the smallest of changes...
like seeing  the newly-hatched wolf spiders streaming
out of the mounds of winter-dried grass in the fields...

and noticing who might come to visit the bird feeder

this year again I keep an eye open for April ...
though I have not seen her yet this year,
I know that she has been at my workshop door

is it even possible that I am missing woodchuck?
everyday now, I think he might come out to graze...
though still no sign yet

we see what is blooming ...
though not quite a blossom,
it also is a welcoming sight at this time of year....

(glimpses) - further adventures of life as a giant

The morning glories had been overlooking the garden for sometime now ...watching the days grow shorter  ... and giving thought to the weather and the changing seasons ...

(though in truth more time has gone by then this picture will tell... and first frost are not always kind )

the ground has not been dry for nearly a month ... and how is it that bystanders can stand up to the winds of hurricanes, storms and first frost I don't know...

all summer ... I had been looking for them....I had seen them many times moving quietly  below my footsteps with their littlle leaps

and they had gone running before my camera could keep them in a picture for you ... very little and hardly as big as a cricket....among the ferns and raised beds

I had seen them busy no doubt in search of a meal and hiding from my ground quaking footstep..

... so while the sun was still bright and the last black-eyed susans shining...

at last here ....I am sharing my further adventures of life as a giant ..
.
even as the fierce weather had arrived with summer exit and autumn arrival....

(glimpses) - spring into summer

here we are in spring and summer all at once ....

spring, summer ... between fleece jackets and shorts

in the course of a few days, spring, summer ....

May ... here we are... full of lilac love
the lilac love is  in full abundance ....(May 26, 2011)

May ... then came summery fierce (sigh)
all gone ...I look up to see ....they have faded all nearly away... (May 31, 2011)

May ... a stray and forgotten candle on the window sill .
... here the stray and forgotten candle on the window sill is found bending  to the sun

I find a a little wheel that will not turn ...  a monitor screen that has gone black...

... and other things that will not work without some help....this is how May has ended and June has started  ..

here we are between spring and summer ... with young and growing things filled with promise ...

(glimpses) - between worlds… and waiting for spring

Some of the trench digging has long been abandoned ....   the mighty orange shovel is not so mighty after all (but perhaps it is me ... tiring)

Spring will help clear a path to the front door,  past Mrs. Robin's nest still covered deep in winter snow... We two are encouraged by little thaws to go venturing into the still deep whiteness ... in search of something that might let us know that Spring is on her way...

we find that Goldenrod's head is not so golden ...  what signs are there?

we lay down these little things we have found on the table ...

little treasures found in the still nearly constant whiteness that has been set aside in little places ...

and with a lesson or two ... (did I once know how ?) ... I am taught how to knit pine cone brown while we wait a a bit longer for Spring. ...

Sometimes it is enough that the old King Winter is companioned by golden sunshine to make us smile while we wait for Spring.
